Grey Days Make Fall Colours Shine

I’m so happy to be back posting after taking yet another month off  from this lovely blog circle.  My apologies to my dear friends for my less than stellar participation.  Last month was busy with travel, so no complaints from me.  When I returned from my trip to Berlin and Paris at the end of September, I was greeted with very unseasonably hot weather!  The summer that wasn’t decided to pay Ottawa a better-late-than-never visit.  This surge in sunshine and hot weather put the display of fall colours on hold.   Autumn is such a splendid time of year that we relish in all of it’s colourful glory.  I think many of us worried that we might just skip fall and move right into winter this year.

Luckily, the temperatures dropped to more appropriate values for October with full-sun days than September, but the leaves were still a few weeks behind schedule in the city.  Last weekend, I loaded the dog into the car and headed up to the lake to spend a couple of days with my husband.  Not ten minutes out of the city, I was thrilled to see the fiery reds , bright oranges and cheerful yellows on putting on a show in the Gatineau Hills of Quebec.  I knew this was going to be a beautiful weekend despite the forecasted rain.

Saturday morning, my dear friend, Joanne and I headed down the road in the drizzle.  I have written about my guilty pleasure of photographing in the rain.  I actually almost blogged about a walk in the rain I took earlier in the week.  But seriously!!  You can’t beat how incredibly beautiful and peaceful everything is.  The colours were rich and vibrant.  The light was soft, diffused and adding just the right amount of highlights and shadows.  These first two were taken with my Fuji X100T, which I thoroughly enjoy shooting with.

Back at the cottage, the flat skies started to break and show some detail and hints of blue.  The lake was so still without the boat traffic of the summer.  These two were taken as part of a Lensbaby challenge that I am participating in with some of my friends.  I used my Nikon D750 with the Lensbaby Composer Pro/Edge 50 combination.  I love getting lost in the reflections of the water.
